Choosing a suitable processor is a difficult problem that every engineer may face in the early stage of development. How do you choose a processor that fits into product development? Today, we will analyze and compare the STM32MP1 series processors in this article.

The STM32MP1 microprocessor series is a general-purpose microprocessor portfolio enabling easy development for a broad range of applications. It comes in two main configurations: the STM32MP15X and the STM32MP13X product lines.

The STM32MP15X processors use ARM Cortex-A7+M4 heterogeneous CPU, can implement dual systems, support Linux and RTOS, and has 3D GPU and MIPI display interface.

The STM32MP13X processors have been streamlined compared with the STM32MP15X series, but the functional application has been improved, the processor frequency has been increased to 1GHz, and the dual Gigabit Ethernet and dual CAN FD functions are very suitable for applications in the industrial IoT and automotive communication fields.

Comparison between STM32MP135 and STM32MP157

MYIR has introduced CUP modules and development boards based on STM32MP157, STM32MP151 and STM32MP135 over the three years. The modules are castellated-hole based design with compact size and excellent reliability; usually integrate with built-in power management, DDR, eMMC/NAND FLASH to help customers skip complex design. They are delivered with shielding covers for dust and touch protection.

MYIR has released three CPU Modules MYC-YA157C, MYC-YA15XC-T and MYC-YF13X since early 2020. The supporting development boards MYD-YA157C, MYD-YA15XC-T and MYD-YF13X are also provided for evaluating and prototyping purpose. The comparisons of the three CPU Modules are as below:

How do engineers choose the right module?

In general, if the project has high requirements for performance, network, display, and also needs to use other peripheral such as CAN and MIPI display, it is recommended to use the MYC-YA157C CPU Module. If it is for cost considerations, do not need too high performance and too many peripheral resources, you can give priority to evaluate the MYC-YA15XC-T CPU Module. For users who want to upgrade from MCU to MPU, and use dual Ethernet, the MYC-YF13X CPU Module is recommended. The three modules are now already successfully used in many applications like industrial control, smart gateway, smart building, access control management, Power Grid FTU/DTU, industrial HMI, etc.

Choose STM32MP13 or STM32MP15?

MYIR also provides development boards for evaluating the STM32MP1 modules, along with rich documentations and software resources, to help customers start their development rapidly.
