The STM32MP1 microprocessor series is based on a heterogeneous single or dual Arm Cortex-A7 and Cortex-M4 cores architecture, strengthening its ability to support multiple and flexible applications, achieving the best performance and power figures at any time. The Cortex-A7 core provides access to open-source Linux operating systems while the Cortex-M4 core leverages the STM32 MCU ecosystem. It is ideal for embedded applications with real-time and power constrained subsystems.

MYIR has released two CPU Modules MYC-YA157C and MYC-YA15XC-T since early 2020. Two development boards MYD-YA157C and MYD-YA15XC-T are also designed for evaluating the modules. Here we would like to guide customers on how to select MYIRs STM32MP1 based CPU Modules.

1. Dimensions

The MYC-YA15XC-T is smaller in form factor, measuring only 39mm by 37mm while the MYC-YA157C is measuring 45mm*43mm.

2. Processors

The MYC-YA15XC-T CPU Module is based on STM32MP151 (STM32MP151AAC3) by default while the MYC-YA157C CPU Module is based on the STM32MP157 (STM32MP157AAC3) by default.

The STM32MP1 series is available in 3 different lines which are pin-to-pin compatible:
- STM32MP151: Single Cortex-A7 core up to @ 800 MHz, Cortex-M4 core @ 209 MHz
- STM32MP153: Dual Cortex-A7 cores up to @ 800 MHz, Cortex-M4 core @ 209 MHz and CAN FD
- STM32MP157: Dual Cortex-A7 cores up to @ 800 MHz, Cortex-M4 core @ 209 MHz, 3D GPU, DSI display interface and CAN FD

3. Memory and Storage
The MYC-YC157C has 512MB DDR3 and 4GB eMMC by default.
The
MYC-YA15XC-T has two default configurations including 256MB DDR3L + 256MB Nand Flash and 512MB + 4GB eMMC.
The modules can support up to 1GB DDR3 plus 1GB Nand Flash or 128GB eMMC.

4. Ethernet PHY Chip

The MYC-YA157C has on-board Gigabit Ethernet PHY chip while the MYC-YA15XC-T has none.

5. Expansion Interface

Both of the modules bring out peripherals and IO signals through 1.0 mm pitch stamp-hole (Castellated-Hole) expansion interface which are populated on the base board with high stability and reliability. The MYC-YA157C has 164 pins while the MYC-YA15XC-T has 148 pins.

In general, if your project has high requirements on performance, network and display, we recommend using the CPU module MYC-YA157C. If your project is sensitive to the cost and does not require too high performance and too many peripheral resources, the CPU module MYC-YA15XC-T can be evaluated first. The two modules are both used in smart gateways, smart building access control management, FTU/DTU power distribution equipment, HMI and many other embedded applications.
